Nashville, Tenn., transit agency WeGo Public Transit will launch open-loop payments this year. When it does, it will become one of a small but growing number of small- to mid-tier transit agencies in the U.S. supporting open loop.
Combined, the new fare system (for closed loop and open loop and fare boxes) had capital costs of $10.1 million and operational costs over five years of $4.4 million.

The Nashville MTA, known as WeGo Public Transit, in Tennessee, plans to launch open-loop payments in 2024 for its fixed-route buses and commuter rail, Mobility Payments has learned.
The project will cover more than 300 validators on fixed-route buses across the transit agency’s network and at commuter rail stations.
