The MRT Authority of Thailand in Bangkok is disappointed with the adoption rate of its open-loop payments service. It has launched a Visa-branded prepaid EMV card to give riders without credit cards or who don’t want to use them to pay fares another means of fare payments. It seeks to replace its “legacy” closed-loop card with the EMV-enabled card.
